Product Care

Max Dilon products are made with carefully selected materials and should be handled with care for longer product life.
Gold jewelry

Solid gold or 14k gold is a great choice if you’re looking for a lifetime piece you can wear every day and everywhere, even in the shower. It can last beautifully for many years if it is protected from household chemicals, scratches and damages. The following tips will help ensure that your Max Dilon gold pieces last a lifetime.

  • Clean your jewelry regularly with a solution of 10-parts lukewarm water and 2- parts soap. Soak them in the solution for an hour. Then scrub them gently with a soft cloth and rinse them with clean water. Blot dry your pieces with an absorbent cloth.
  • Use a jewelry box. A fabric-lined jewelry box is the best option. And the best practice is to store pieces separately to prevent them from tangling or scratching each other. Alternatively, you can create space in your wardrobe where you can hang your chains and necklaces.
  • Wait to put on your jewelry until after you have applied lotion, makeup or perfume.
  • Remove your jewelry before you swim in chlorine or salt water.
  • Remove your jewelry while doing sports or working out at the gym.

24k Gold-Plated Jewelry

Max Dilon gold-plating in all jewelry is 24k gold. This means that the content of the plating is 99,9% gold, whereas 18k gold or “vermeil” gold plating is 75% gold, 14k is 58.3%, 10k is 41.7% and 9k is 37.5%. This pureness and rare color makes 24k gold highly desirable, the most expensive, and most often used in fine jewelry. Because 24k gold does not have traces of other metals, the pieces are known for being ‘softer’. ‘However, Max Dilon pieces are handcrafted to be durable and can last a lifetime if you follow some basic tips.

  • Wipe your gold plated jewelry after each use, using a soft cloth to remove any dirt or debris. You may also soak it for a few minutes in warm, soapy water and dry it with a soft cloth as needed.
  • Store your plated jewelry where it won’t rub against other hard substances (a soft bag—one per piece of jewelry—is ideal).
  • Wait to put on your jewelry until after you have applied lotion, makeup or perfume.
  • Remove your jewelry before you swim in chlorine or salt water.
  • Remove your jewelry before participating in activities that will cause you to sweat a lot.
  • Avoid wearing your jewelry when you sleep or shower.

Platinum-Plated Jewelry

Platinum is extremely durable and strong making it ideal for jewelry that’s worn on a daily basis. It’s highly resistant to stress and withstands both extreme heat and extreme cold. This means platinum jewelry will retain its good looks better than any other metal.

Max Dilon platinum plated jewelry can keep their brilliance for longer if you follow the tips provided for gold-plated jewelry.

Rhodium-Plated Jewelry

Max Dilon designs and manufactures jewelry with rhodium-plated parts. Rhodium belongs to the platinum group metals and gives off silvery, grey or black luster coating on jewelry.  A common misconception is that rhodium plating only needs to be done once and is permanent. However, Rhodium is susceptible to wear and tear through exposure. So most pieces on average will need to be rhodium plated every 12-18 months.

Alexa chains is one of Max Dilon delicate pieces. Black rhodium plating will wear off over time leaving the surface of the base metal with a unique antique-looking gunmetal color similar to black oxidized metals. After natural wear and tear, your piece will develop its own unique vintage “worn” look. This natural process and how soon the plating may wear off depends on how carefully the Alexa chain is handled.

To make your Rhodium Plating last longer follow the tips below

  • Avoid placing your rhodium-plated chain on any surface. Always store it or hang it separately to avoid scratching against other jewelry or surfaces.
  • Avoid heavy cleaning products.
  • Avoid metal on metal rubbing.

Sunglasses

Max Dilon Sunglasses are made with great care from high-quality materials. Delicate care and maintenance will ensure that your sunglasses stay in top condition for many years.

  • Rinse your glasses with a light stream of lukewarm tap water. This will remove the dust and help prevent you from scratching your lenses as you clean them. Do not use hot water to clean glasses, as it can damage the lenses and break down the coatings. Avoid also using alcohol, vinegar or any other household glass cleaner on your glasses for the same reason.
  • Use a microfiber cloth especially made to clean glasses. A Max Dilon cloth is always provided with the sunglasses case. If the cloth gets dirty, you can either launder it or buy a new one. Avoid using your shirt tail or other garments to clean the sunglasses as the tiny fabrics in the garments can permanently scratch your lenses.
  • Be gentle. Don’t wipe the lens when they’re dry – there may be dust or particles – and don’t use paper towels or other rough materials. Regardless of how soft they are on your skin, have a textured surface and can easily scratch your lenses.
  • Keep away from excessive heat. Avoid leaving your sunglasses in a hot car or anywhere in the sunlight. Excessive heat can cause the frame to distort and the lenses to crack.
  • Store appropriately. To prevent unnecessary damage to glasses, keep them stored in a safe place when not in use. Avoid throwing them into your bag or placing them on the top of your head. Make it a habit always to place them in your case and gently place in storage.

Pearls

Pearl necklaces are timeless pieces and can be worn every day. However, cultured pearls are delicate and require proper care. Although often wearing your pearls moistens and keeps them in good condition, cosmetics, sun block, perfume and hairspray all contain chemicals that can dramatically dull the luster of a pearl. The natural acids contained in body oils and perspiration can also damage. Here are basic tips for pearl maintenance.

  • Wipe your pearls with a soft cloth after every wear. This will help prevent any buildup of oils or other substances on your pearls throughout the day.
  • Clean with a damp cloth only as needed. If your pearls are visibly stained, you can mix a solution of lukewarm water and mild dish soap, dip a soft cleaning cloth in it and wipe the pearls. Do NOT submerge a pearl necklace in water, as it will weaken the silk thread.
  • Let them dry all the way before storing. Again, this helps preserve the elasticity of the silk strand.
  • Take them to your jeweler once a year. While you want to wear your pearls often to keep them hydrated, all that body oil doesn’t do the silk thread any favors. Make sure to have your jeweler check the integrity of your pearl bracelets and necklaces once a year. They can also give them a thorough, safe cleaning.
